About New England Vintage Films

New England Vintage Films is the work of vintage cinematographer David Cunningham. Our goal is to fulfill our own desire to work with vintage movie film formats, especially Super 8, while providing a reasonably priced service to clients who want to capture their moments on film. While many other companies charge $5000 or more just to get started we will work with you to find a reasonably priced solution that works for any budget.

Although our primary focus is Super 8 wedding films, we can shoot in any format or at any event you desire. We have the equipment and expertise to shoot in regular (double) 8mm, Super 8mm and 16mm and we can create special movies for all occasions.

Based out of Lowell, MA, New England Vintage Films is willing to travel. Please feel free to contact us even if we are not nearby. We would be happy to discuss travel costs and meeting solutions.

About Super 8

Super 8 is a silent home movie format created by Kodak in 1965. To make home movies easier for the average American family Kodak designed this new format to use easy to use film cartridges. (Previous formats like 16mm and regular 8mm use spools of film that needed to be manually threaded through the camera.) The goal to appeal to the average family was very successful and Super 8 became the world standard for home movies throughout the 60s and 70s.

Although sound options were developed to compete with the advent of video in the late 70s, they were never particularly popular and the special film for these formats was discontinued by Kodak by the early 1990s.

Vintage weddings in the greater Boston area are our largest market, but any event that may want a “home movie” feel can benefit from our service.

We prefer to meet all clients in person to discuss itineraries and expectations and will travel or FaceTime/Skype if needed.
